AUDIO RECORDING SOFTWARE: AVID PRO TOOLS VS APPLE LOGIC PRO X
Jun 13, 2019 Today Apple released a new version of Logic Pro X, its professional music production software, with performance updates for all users and optimizations that take advantage of the groundbreaking power of the all-new Mac Pro. Making full use of the Mac Pro hardware, Logic Pro X 10.4.5 will now support up to 56 processing threads, allowing pro. Engaging and fun music production lessons delivered by expert Logic Pro instructor Josh Carney — an experienced recording engineer, musician, composer, producer, educator, and YouTuber with over 14 years of experience in the field.
On the surface, Avid Pro Tools and Apple Logic Pro X are very similar. They basically perform the same overall functions and are both very popular audio recording software options. But, there are some major differences between the two that audio engineering professionals need to know about… or, are the differences really all that major? This is just a small sample of what you can expect from an audio engineering school like F.I.R.S.T.
PRO TOOLS VS LOGIC PRO: WHAT DO THEY DO?
When it comes to audio recording software, the market is flooded with endless choices. But, there are two that tend to shine above many: Avid Pro Tools and Apple Logic Pro.
On the surface, both Pro Tools and Apple Logic Pro are digital audio workstations or DAWs. Generally, they both do the same things and perform the same functions. Yet, each one is preferred by different industry professionals:
- Pro Tools –More of an industry standard audio recording software. Popular as a tool for music production, post-production, recording bands and broadcasting.
- Logic Pro – More popular as an audio recording program for musicians, songwriters, jingle producers, prosumer base, etc.
PRO TOOLS VS LOGIC PRO X: WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES?
User Interface and Workflow Differences
Logic Pro's user interface is much easier to maneuver and get around than Pro Tools. This audio software makes sampling sequencing easier, and there's a lot of instrumenting involved. All of this makes it a very efficient tool if smooth workflow is a top priority. It's a great program for writers.
Music Studio Production Software
Avid Pro Tools, on the other hand, has the ability to do the same things, but 3rd-party apps are usually needed. Also, there are nowhere near as many instruments in this audio recording program. So, writers will need 3rd-party apps to create some of the unique sounds they want to bring to life.
In short, they both use MIDI. However, Apple's Logic Pro makes it much easier to manipulate MIDI. All of this makes the workflow of Pro Tools less smooth than that of Logic Pro.
PRO TOOLS VS LOGIC PRO X: THE LAYOUT DIFFERENCES
Apple Logic Pro X Layout – This audio recording tool has a loop library where you can quickly choose loops, strings, etc. Simply drag and drop them where you want them, and Logic puts it in time with the tempo of that session. It comes with a MIDI editor for the various instruments, such as piano. Logic is great for song writers and MIDI producers, as it has a lot of the functions of Pro Tools, but the editing is a bit different.
Avid Pro Tools Layout – With this audio software, you can easily open up instrument rolls, tracks, audio, MIDI, etc. This program's editing feature is much easier than Logic's, making tasks like swiping, deleting and moving things around more efficient. Because this makes it simpler and faster to get the job done, Pro Tools is better than Logic for high pressure sessions.
These are just a few of the key differences our audio production school helps students with.
BIGGEST DIFFERENCE WHEN CONSIDERING PRO TOOLS VS. LOGIC PRO
Apple Logic Studio Music Production Software For Beginners
With Logic, you're able to compose much faster, making it right for those who compose at home. Autocad 360 for macbook pro. However, not everyone uses this program. So, once you leave your home, your files may not be easily accessible from other studio locations.
Because Avid Pro Tools is the industry standard audio software, you can rest assured that your files will be accessible across the board. That means that when you record a session and take it to another studio, chances are very strong that you'll be able to open your files, as well as all edits and plugins.
So, generally speaking, the biggest difference is compatibility. If you're a traveling artist, musician, producer, engineer, etc… you'll want to use the industry standard software to ensure you can use your files anywhere in the US (and the world).
